I have posted this topic on the forums, but the response so far has been nil, so. Given, that it is possible to run Vista-64 on a Mac via bootcamp.

Oh well… It seems like everything will get better in the future, but going back to the present, things are still far from perfect on the Mac OSX side of things, that was the main reason for my post. Although the progress in this area has been moving at a snail’s pace, I guess there is some glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
I guess it would be wise to stick to running Cubase 5 on OSX for now, hopefully OSX Snow Leopard, when it is released (hopefully soon), will offer better performance, and when Cubase 5 (64-bit for Mac OS SL) is released, we can enjoy running demanding VSTs such as EW’s PLAY in full 64-bit glory to access the full capacity of a computers RAM. In summary, buy a Mac if you choose, and then use it as a Mac.

While C5 itself can currently only access <4 GB RAM in Leopard, full 64 bit support will soon be here when Snow Leopard is released, and also plug-ins like those from EastWest can still access up to 32 GB RAM while running inside C5. And my advice is to just forget about Bootcamp in regards to C5. Choose the system you like best and with which you are most comfortable, but don’t purchase with the idea that overall a Mac is going to be far superior to a high end PC.or vice versa. Neither system is perfect, both have advantages and disadvantages, and both will do the job. In any case, what is important is how solid your computer is, and how you use it and C5. However Mac has a slight edge when it comes to reliability and stability.or so the story goes. :) Finally there are no definitive answers to your questions, but many folks do claim that, at present, some aspects of ‘performance’ may be slightly better on a 64 bit PC. Keep in mind though that most people come there to complain rather than praise. It’s a matter of opinion as to whether C5 gives better performance on a native Mac or PC, but if you want to read the opinions please visit the Mac and PC C5 conferences at. IMHO, there is little, if any performance gain in running C5 via Bootcamp running Vista. I have a Mac Pro 8 core, and have been thinking about buying Vista-64 to install, and test C5, but so far I can’t seem to find any consistent/reliable test results for this scenario.Īnyone try this ? Any surprises ? or is C5 pretty much equal on both operating systems running on a Mac Pro ? So any major performance/stability changes would be attributed to how C5 behaves on the two OS’s, rather than the Hardware. Mac Pro 8 core), but on two different Operating Systems (Windows vs OSX). What makes this quite interesting is that it tests C5 running on the same hardware (i.e. I was interested in knowing if anyone has tested C5 when running Windows (VIsta-64) via Bootcamp on their Mac ? mainly to find out if there are any major performance gains, or added stability when using C5 on Windows OS, via Bootcamp ? Since Intel-Mac (OSX) Cubase 5 users can choose to run Cubase 5 on their Intel-Mac using a Windows OS such as (Vista-64) via Bootcamp.
